Top 10 Values

  1. Leisure- this is my most important value for work because my family is my number one priority. It is essential for me to be able to spend time with my husband and children and to be able to take care of them. My family comes before my work. This value will play a huge part in deciding on a career as there is a limited amount of careers that will allow me to be devoted to my job as well as my family equally. Balance in my life is essential to me in choosing a career.
  2. Compensation- it is important to me to be compensated for the work I do. I want to feel like I am getting the pay that I deserve from the work I do.  I must feel that what I am doing in my work is worth it. I also want to be able to help in supporting my family to avoid financial strain. Being aware that this is a high value for me helps me realize that whatever I choose to do as a career, I need to choose something that will pay me properly for the work I do.
  3. Happiness- it is very important to me to find joy and happiness in the work that I do. I want the work I do to add to my happiness, not take away from it.
  4. Independence- I would like to have a career that allows me to be my own boss and be in charge of my own time. I know that as I get older, there will be more demands on my time. I don’t want to feel confined to the restrictions of someone else’s schedule. Knowing that I work better on my own time schedule and under my own demands, will help me to choose a career that best fits my personality.
  5. Influence- Whatever I choose to do for a career, I want to be influential. I want the work I do to make a difference in the lives of others. I get great satisfaction and joy from knowing that I have helped someone make their life better. This value will help me choose a career that will allow me to be a positive influence in the lives of others.
  6. Creativity- in whatever I decide to do as a profession, I want to be able to express myself and my ideas in my own personal way. I want to come up with original and imaginative ideas and share them with others. I want to create things that are outside of myself that only I could create. Knowing this value, I recognize I need to choose a career that allows me to use my creativity and imagination in the work place.
  7. Respect- It is important to me that I am respected for the work I do, not only respect from others, but respect from myself. I want to feel satisfaction and fulfillment from whatever I do in life and I want others to value my work as well. I want to be able to be proud of my work and I want those that know me to be proud of what I do as well. This value will help me choose work that is respectable and honorable.
  8. Learning and growing as a person- I greatly value learning new things and personal growth and development. I would love to have a profession that will allow me to learn valuable things that will help me in life. As I learn and grow, I want to be able to share my insights with others to help them along the journey in life. Having this as a value will help me to choose a profession where there is room for learning and development that will bring me joy and satisfaction.
  9. Achievement- I get great satisfaction from my personal accomplishments. I want to be able to achieve great things that will be a benefit to society through the work I do. As I choose a career to pursue, I will need to keep this in mind and search for professions that will allow me to do this.
  10. Self-determination- this is an important value to me as I would like to be my own boss. It is important to me to have the determination to get things done and to accomplish the tasks that I need to fulfill. This is a value that I will have to have if I am to be independent in my work.
